Our young writers at our Wonder of Words summer workshop were tasked to write a song. It was such a joy to read their works! They are not only fiction and non fiction writers but lyricists too!
For this week, I’m featuring four young writers who could be our future songwriters. Their creativity and imagination is just fascinating, from a song about their favorite toy to being a better person.

It is like a heart
by Colette, 7 years old
I look up listening to the stars
but then I realized
a star could be a heart
I never know it is so hard to feel
I wish I could see if it is really a heart
Ohhhh I think my family and the stars is my heart
because I love them so much
It is like a heart (3x)
yeh yeh I look up
and say my feelings like the star above the sky
pum pum pum pum pum pum yeh yeh
I wake up in the middle of the night
looking at the moon
and then I remember the nights
I have fun so much fun
I always been so happy (3x)

Who is there when I need help?
Who is there to help me?
I look to someone special
Who could it be?
You, You help me when I need help
You help me when I am sad
It’s such an honor to have you
But I have you everywhere
You are my teacher helping me out
Mom, who takes care of me
Dad who does that too
You are a big helper
Take a Stand
by Andie, 12 years old
People crossing down the street
wondering how life’s going to be
without peace on earth
Everybody’s gonna get hurt
So stand up. Stand up
fight for what is right
and be the people’s guide
and open up, open up, open up
Always try to change for the better
so the world may live forever
Let’s do this all together
and everyone would live happily ever after
